Paavo Järvi becomes next music director of Orchestre de Paris
Starting in September, the American-Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi will become the new music director of the Orchestre de Paris, in replacement of Christoph Eschenbach. No “big revolutions” but “new directions” in the programmation were announced by the conductor at a press conference. The artistic director of the orchestra, Didier de Cottignies, is convinced that Järvi will bring new inspiration to the role and “a modern vision of the music director position”.
His reign starts on September 15 and 16 when he leads, in the first of 15 programs this season, the orchestra in Sibelius’ Kullervo, his father’s – the great conductor Neeme Järvi – favourite work.
