Denis Bédard

 Denis Bédard
Denis Bédard was born in Québec City, pursuing his musical studies at the Conservatoire de Québec where he received First Prizes with honors in chamber music, harpsichord and organ (under Claude Lavoie) as well as prizes in composition. Recipient of a Canada Council grant for three consecutive years, Denis Bédard first spent a year in Paris. Under the tutelage of Laurence Boulay, he concentrated mainly on the harpsichord and the basso continuo. Upon his return to Canada, he studied organ and harpsichord under Mireille and Bernard Lagacé. Winner of the 1975 Prix d’Europe for harpsichord, he continued his studies with Gustav Leonhardt for two years in Amsterdam. In 1978, he won Second Prize in the harpsichord category of Radio-Canada’s Concours national. Denis Bédard has given numerous concerts throughout Québec and has been heard many times on the CBC French radio network. Also a composer, he has written chamber music, melodies for voice and piano and works for piano and for harpsichord. Since 1978, he has been organist-in-residence at the Saint-Cœur-de-Marie Church in Québec City and, since 1981, professor at the Conservatoire de Québec.
