Seán Dagher
Seán Dagher, cittern, 'ud, voice
Seán is an active performer, arranger, and composer of music from various folk and classical music traditions: Celtic, Baroque, medieval, French-Canadian, and Maritime. He is artistic director of Skye Consort and its principal arranger.
Performance
Seán has performed and recorded with some of Québec’s foremost folk and classical musician and ensembles: counter-tenor Matthew White, Ensemble La Nef, Les Voix Humaines, fiddler Laura Risk, Les Charbonniers de L’Enfer, Feux d'Archetistes, as well as artists from further afield: Canadian sopranos Shannon Mercer and Meredith Hall, American tenor Michael Slattery, violinist/fiddler David Greenberg. Since 1994 Seán has been the singer and cittern player with the folk duo The Paddingtons. From 2001 to 2002, he played hurdy-gurdy and cittern, and sang in La Compagnie Machaut; an ensemble dedicated to the revival of authentic performances of Guillaume de Machaut's music. In 2003 Seán joined La Mandragore whose unique approach to medieval music draws on influences from the world over. In 1998, he lived in Dublin, Ireland studying and researching Celtic music performance, and played with some of Ireland's premier traditional musicians. As a singer, Seán’s repertoire includes Irish, Scottish, English, French-Canadian, Old French and Old Occitan songs.
Composition and Arrangement
Seán's work can be heard on many recordings and his arrangements and compositions have been played by such ensembles as La Nef, Les Voix Baroques, I Furiosi, Feux d'Archetistes, Les Voix Humaines, and Skye Consort.
Theatre
Seán has worked as a composer and a sound designer for theatrical productions including J.M. Synge's The Playboy of the Western World, James Reaney's St. Nicholas Hotel, and the Black Theatre Workshop's production of Athol Fugard's My Children! My Africa!
He has a bachelor of Music Theory-Composition from Montréal’s Concordia University.
