Andrew Tunis was born in , in 1956. He studied piano at the University of Ottawa and at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Among his teachers are the Franch pianist Jean-Paul Sévilla and Artur Balsam, the noted American pianist and chamber music player. Andrew Tunis has performed widely in concert tours in North America and Europe and has made recordings for the CBC and for Société Radio-Canada. He is presently on the teaching staff at the Department of Music of the University of Ottawa. He won the eighth annual New York Young Artists in Recital Competition in 1979, the 1980 Canadian Music Competitions and the 1981 CBC’s Radio Talent Festival Competition.
