Maestro Bruno Weil is world-renowned as one of the leading conductors of Viennese Classicism. Born in Germany, Mr Weil was a master student of Hans Swarowsky and Franco Ferrara. He was named General Music Director of the City of Augsburg in 1981, Germany’s youngest General Music Director at that time. Bruno Weil has performed with leading symphony orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Dresden Staatskapelle, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has conducted at the German Opera Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Semper Opera Dresden, the Glyndebourne Festival, and most often at the Vienna State Opera. He has worked regularly as guest conductor of Tafelmusik since 1991, performing with them in Toronto and on tour in Europe.

Maestro Weil has conducted numerous recordings with the Tafelmusik Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Weil and Tafelmusik were awarded the German CD Award Echo Klassik as “Orchestra of the Year 1996.” In 1997 Bruno Weil won the Echo Klassik Award as “Conductor of the Year.” He is Music Director of the Carmel Bach Festival, California as well as Artistic Director of the period-instrument Klang & Raum (Sound and Space) Festival in Irsee, Germany, at which Tafelmusik is orchestra-in-residence.

In October 2001 Bruno Weil was appointed Professor of Conducting in Munich at the State Academy for Music and Theatre.
