Rémi Boucher was born near Rouyn-Noranda, a mining centre in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Québec. It was with his graduation from the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec that his name began to be noticed. The jury awarded the exceptional mark of 97% for his graduation concert and again, in 1989, for his Masters Degree concert. His studies were punctuated with lessons from people like Manuel Barrueco and David Russell. He then studied in Spain with Josep Enriquez, José Luis Rodrigo and Vladimir Mikulka. Further studies in Belgium and Switzerland allowed him to work with the likes of Oscar Ghiglia. His travels were accomplished with the aid of the Canada Council, which not only offered him two grants, but the Sylva Gelber Award, making Rémi Boucher the first guitarist in 30 years...
