It came to us from the wide spaces of the New World
a place that keep dreams of the Old Country alive.
It was born in 1893, in Louisville, a small Kentucky town,
the work of a humble schoolteacher and her sister, Mildred and Patty Hill.
Since then, it has traveled all around the planet.
It has become the most popular in the whole world.
And even before Man was to set foot on the moon,
it was the first to be heard in interplanetary space.
It was in 1969, during the Apollo IX mission.
So today, almost as by magic, you receive it from cyberspace,
in multiple variations, a gift from violinist Angèle Dubeau and her ensemble La Pietà.
In the style of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak and Schumann…
like film music, ragtime, tango, polka, a waltz and a Gypsy air…
Here it is, the song rolling all over the universe…
