The Montréal-based baroque music quartet Arion has been delighting audiences since 1981 with its performances of 17th- and 18th-century chamber music. Since its founding, it has toured in Canada, Europe, Mexico, and the United States, winning critical and popular acclaim everywhere. More recently, the group was invited to participate in Belgium’s Festival de Wallonie in October, 1993, and toured the Netherlands in January 1994, playing in five Dutch cities. In addition to its regular concert series, the quartet also toured Western Canada in February 1995. Arion frequently invites renowned baroque soloists such as Marion Verbrüggen, Anner Bylsma, Masahiro Arita, Chiara Banchini and Ann Monoyios, as guest performers. Arion has made several recordings, including Entre Paris et Versailles; Bach’s Musical Offering; several of Telemann’s Paris Quartets; Conversations en musique and Un concert en Nouvelle-France with tenor Richard Duguay, based on the latest research into musical life in Québec under the French regime by musi- cologist Élisabeth Gallat-Morin.
