Dom André Saint-Cyr, o.s.b.
Born to a musical family in Québec City, Dom André Saint-Cyr studied music and sang for three years with the Petits Chanteurs de la Basilique Notre-Dame in Québec City. He went on to study piano and organ at Université Laval and the Québec conservatory of music. He completed his studies in Saint-Benoît-du-Lac, Paris and Rome. He holds a B.A. in composition (sacred music) and a master’s degree in sacred music. A specialist in the paleography, semiology, interpretation and conduction of Gregorian chant, he has conducted the Abbey’s choir since 1970, also teaching vocal technique. He has conducted Gregorian chant for many CBC broadcasts and has more than 20 recordings in North America and Europe as well as countless concerts to his credit. He is a regular guest professor at the workshops held by the National Association of Pas- toral Musicians in Washington, D.C. Since 1989, he has conducted the Gregorian choir at Saint- Jean-Baptiste Church in Montréal, where a Mass is sung in Gregorian chant every month.
