Gilbert Patenaude has been the musical director of the Petit Chanteurs du Mont-Royal for the last thirty years. He studied organ and piano at the Vincent d’Indy School of Music in Montreal. An alumni of the Conservatoire de musique du Québec in Montreal, he pursued further studies at the Nice International Academy of Music in France and in Hilversum, Netherlands.
He took over the position of music director of the choir in 1978, thus becoming the third to occupy this function but the first non-religious person. He is responsible for the musical education of the students at the elementary and secondary levels. He also conducts the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal at the religious services at Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount-Royal and in concerts. Mr. Patenaude is the author of numerous harmonisations, orchestrations and several original works, including three operas.
Under his leadership, the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal have recorded many albums. Gilbert Patenaude shares with all, the young and the older ones, his quest for choral excellence and his passion for music.
