Composer, conductor, and teacher, Gilles Tremblay taught musical analyses and composition for many years at the Montreal Conservatory of Music. He has thus contributed to the training of an entire generation of composers. A student of Olivier Messiaen, Gilles Tremblay was also influenced by Edgar Varèse. For some years now, he has been commissioned works by music societies from Quebec, Canada, and Europe. His works are performed in Canada as well as abroad. Gilles Tremblay was a member of the SMCQ’s Board of Directors from 1969 until 1982, presiding it afterwards until 1988. He was also the society’s artistic director from 1986 to 1988.
