Igor Blazhkov

Igor Blazhkov was born in 1936 in Kiev and graduated from the Tchaïkovsky Conservatory of Music in that same city. In 1958, he was appointed as conductor of the State of Ukraine Symphony Orchestra. At this time, he was permanently in relationship with the famous conductor Eugene Mravinsky whose influence was prominent in the young musician’s career. He played in the Soviet Union the works of the greatest composers of the 20th century such as Stravinsky, Schönberg, Berg, Ives… He became the artistic director and resident conductor of the Kiev Symphony Orchestra in 1988.
