Jay Bernfeld

Music lovers have discovered a gamba player of exceptional expressive eloquence in Jay Bernfeld; and his love for voice places him in the same prestigious lineage as Silvestro Ganassi and Marin Marais, both renowned for their lyrical qualities. Jay Bernfeld has brought a profound change to baroque interpretation by his work on the basso continuo, as witnessed by his series of CDs with the Capriccio Stravagante Ensemble for Deutsche Harmonia Mundi / BMG; notable among the selections are Antoine Forqueray’s compositions for viola, and Abend Music by Dietrich Buxtehude, both obtaining the Diapason d’Or and the Grand Prix de la Nouvelle Académie du Disque. Born in the United States, Jay Bernfeld has lived in Paris for the past 15 years.
