Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal
The Orchestre Métropolitain was founded in 1981 by a group of musicians, graduates of Québec’s most respected institutions. Since then, the Orchestra has answered with much enthousiasm to the mandate it had first set for itself, which is promoting the talent of Québec’s musicians and composers and developing a new public for music. With this in mind, the Orchestra has created a touring series called “Tournée dans l’Ile,” where it performs in five different areas around Montreal, allowing residents to participate in Montreal’s cultural life. For the last five years, the Orchestra has also been performing in the subway, in public parks during the summer and has created a series called “Premières” where it performs cost-free for elementary students. In 1986, Agnès Grossmann was named as the Orchestra’s artistic director. Thanks to her carisma and pedagogical skills, she was able to provide the Orchestra with a priviledged status in the cultural milieu of Montreal. From 1995 to 2000, Joseph Resigno was artistic director of the Orchestra. His vitality allowed the Orchestra to reach new heights.
