Quatuor Alcan

Quatuor Alcan

Founded in 1989, the Quatuor Alcan of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Symphony Orchestra has earned the enviable reputation of being the best Canadian ensemble of its kind since the advent of the Orford Quartet. Taking permanent residence in Chicoutimi, Québec, the group benefits from a generous grant from its namesake, Alcan. The Quatuor Alcan was originally constituted to enrich the cultural and musical life of its home region, forming an illustrious first row in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Symphony Orchestra. However, the success of the group went beyond all expectations. They are now renowned throughout Canada thanks to numerous radio programmes, compact discs and concerts (more than 50 per season). Members of the Quartet are also frequently invited to play and teach at the Festival International du Domaine Forget in Charlevoix county and the Camp musical du Lac-Saint-Jean at Meta-betchouan. The many qualities of the Alcan Quartet has made its name synonymous with excellence. From Viennese classics to specially commissioned works, critics are unanimous in praising the Quartet’s cohesion, exquisite tone and flawless interpretation.
