Baroque Harpsichord Music
Listen to baroque harpischord music
The harpsichord in all its glory! While the notoriety of the instrument first grew during the renaissance with popular harpsichord songs, it was during the baroque period, the 17th and 18th century, that the harpsichord evolved tremendously as an instrument and became one of the most important European musical instruments. Initially, the harpsichord thrived in Italy and around Antwerp in Belgium and, over time, Germany became a significant centre for the instrument when organ builders in that country started to also build harpsichords.

The instrument reached the height of its popularity when baroque masters like Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Scarlatti and George Frideric Handel composed works for it. Famous harpsichord music like Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto In F Minor, BWV 1056, Handel’s Suite No. 3 in D Minor, HWV 428 and Couperin’s Suite de pièces de clavecin en ré mineur show why the harpsichord inspired the best composers and remains such a cherished instrument today.
